Good Cars !! Overall A Great Experience!!
The Car was clean and maintained, was given a Pugeot 5008 (automatic). Pick up took a bit of time as there were people in line !! Return was Very Fast !! would have preferred if Green Motion had a set up in the Edinburgh city as well. I had come by train so had to take an Uber to the airport to pick up the car. Overall a good experience!! Had to also to up Blue Active as I was driving a diesel car !! That I am told will get refunded back to me, will await the refund.

Green Motion insurance scam
When we arrived at 10 am Birmingham Airport office (it is at the International train station and not with the other car hire companies ), the office was closed. An American customer who had been waiting for some time told us he had phoned them and was told they were cleaning cars and would come asap.
When they came we believe we were scammed into taking extra insurance costing £288 for 5 days!! Although we had already taken out the “Platinum” deposit insurance with the booking agent (carjet.com) the service agent insisted it was not valid. We refused extra insurance and agreed to pay a £1200 deposit instead.
Two valid credit cards (one English, one German) did not work after three attempts ; the card reader warned for the last 3rd attempt and showed that both PINs were invalid, although we used them during the rest of our trip without any problem. As we had already paid for the car we could only get it by paying for their insurance. Suddenly the card reader worked straightaway with our debit card. Both our Mastercard providers in the UK and Germany had no transactions logged for those cards on that day and the cards were not blocked, which leaves only one conclusion, that the card reader was manipulated and we were scammed. We were not the only ones. Whilst we were there the American customer got the same treatment and when we tried to warn an Irish family, arriving at the office, they told us they were returning their car and had already been ripped off. When one Googles Green Motion scam one finds many more. A cheaper insurance was allegedly available at £15 per day, but not to us, as it was a "credit card deal" and the more expensive option was a "debit card deal".
We were then told that the insurance did not cover any roof and the undercarriage damage. When asked if we were insured if a tree fell on our car, the answer was no! We were then told as a concession we did not have to return the car with a full tank, but when we got to the car the tank was empty in any case!
During our journey we found a thin screw in one tyre which had been there for some time because the head had been worn down. We went to ATS who said we should remove the screw and have it repaired for £30. We rang the Green Motion office to get their permission and were told they would not reimburse us and we had to sort it out with the insurance.
In the end we paid £ 620 instead of the £ 275 advertised!
Green Motion is a franchise and it may be that not that every franchise holder is crooked, but the business model seems to be to offer the cars at a good price and then force the customer by hook or crook to take expensive insurance or find a small scratch on a returning car and withhold part of the deposit.
This was the first and last time we will use Green Motion and we advise others not to touch them with a barge pole.

Please do not rent from here
Please do not rent from here. From the get go our experience was terrible. I should have done more diligence before renting from this location - there’s a whole trip advisor thread on how fraudulent these guys are.
The staff exploit customers knowing that international renters don't have too many recourse options once they rent.
1. after the rental, They claimed tyre damages which looked like regular wear and tear and charged me 100s of pounds. They even charged my card without consent
2. they charged me an extortionary rate for an extension giving me spurious logic about why the rates are so high
3. They make you lug your bags for about 200 metres if you come in by taxi
4. the wait times inside are insane
5. location enforces no covid safe behavior and feels extremely unsafe
overall, it's a consistently bad experience and they exploit customers every chance they get. please do not rent from this location

This company is a scam

I copied our formal complaint in here. In the end we did not get reimbursed but we got a 15 % discount code for next time...
"
After having experienced your services I would like to make a formal complaint regarding the refusal of reimbursement for mechanic charges incurred despite having full insurance and the utter lack of customer service.
We rented a Mini Cooper from Green Motion Glasgow Airport for four days (July 13 - July 17 2022). When we arrived, we were informed by the sales guy, Peter, that we would have to add on the full insurance package, as a credit card in my name was needed. We were refused to change the booking to my girlfriend's name and credit card. This added up to an additional charge of 50£ per day, 200£ in total. We understand that this might be a legal requirement and therefore not much to do about that. Peter assured us that the package would cover breakdowns and any damage to the car. He informed us that we would receive a full refund for any scratches, tyre replacement etc. if we provided the invoice for the fix.
While driving on Isle of Skye we hit a pothole which punctured our front left wheel. We immediately called Green Motions number as instructed, after being warned of the low tyre pressure on the car dashboard. We were met by a sequence of questions by the answering machine. At no point where we directed to speak to a human. The answering machine then informed us that we should call the breakdown number to Mini Roadside Assistance, which we found on the car key, and they would handle it. We were then directed to fill out an online form with information on the breakdown. We were informed that a mechanic would be with us within 90 minutes. We were called back approximately 1.5 hours later to confirm our location. The roadside assistance company then arranged for the mechanic to come and change the tyre. All communication with the mechanic on what car and tyre was needed was handled by Green Motion and Mini Road Assistance. Approximately 1.5 hours later a mechanic arrived and changed the tyre. In total the process took around 3 hours, rather than the 90 minutes promised. It had taken more than 2 hours for Green Motion/Mini Roadside Assistance to call a mechanic after the incident had been reported. We paid for the tyre replacement and saved the invoice, as we had originally been instructed by Peter, expecting reimbursement of the 130£ after having paid 200£ for the full insurance package covering flat tyres.
When returning the car on July 17th we inform the man there about our accident and how we had proceeded. He informs us that he cannot reimburse us, as the tyre which has been put on the car is a "budget" tyre rather than a "premium" one. He is quite rude, ignoring us throughout the whole process, and takes no note of the fact that we tell him that all communication with the mechanic and selection of the tyre was done by Green Motion or their partners, thereby leaving us no choice in the matter of what tyre was put on the car. He calls his manager where he confirms that he cannot reimburse us for a "wrong" tyre, leaving out the information about the tyre selection being done by Green Motion or their partners. He informs us that there is nothing he can do, as this is "above his paygrade" but refuses to call his manager back or let us speak to the manager. The customer cannot legally be liable for cost incurred from decisions made by Green Motion or their partners.
Overall, using Green Motion has been a very unpleasant experience; from not honouring your insurance policy to being denied simple respect as a costumer. Additionally, I wonder why the information about replacing tyres for premium tyres were never mentioned. Not when we asked about the coverage of the insurance, when we called to report the damage or when the mechanic was called out to help us.
I hope that you wish to restore your integrity as a company and honour what you write on your homepage by reimbursing the 130£ as per the insurance agreement.

Literally the worst service I have had
Literally the worst service I have had. I don't usually write review but its important others know. I have read a few other reviews and my experience was the same. Hidden/extra charges, £1200 deposit on credit card or £400 on debit (and that effects the rental price significantly). Its been 2 working days and I still haven't received my £400 back. Staff not helpful at all. Was meant to pick us up from Kings Cross, we had to go to the HQ in Edgware Road. No apology, not bothered by it at all.
Just the worst, and will actively discourage people from using them.
I said I would leave this review and they didn't seem bothered at all. I hope this gives others the insight I wish I had before booking.

Avoid these rip off cowboys!
Avoid these rip off cowboys!
Took them an hour to give us the car, even though it was pre-booked months in advance!
We drove that car like it was made of glass due to the £1250 deposit and they charged us £160 for a black mark on a black wheel which wasn't us!
Funny how the insurance doesn't cover the wheels....how many customers have paid for that same black mark I wonder!!!
We plan to go via our credit card company to report this company for fraud. I want to see proof that black mark has been repaired and not charged again to the next customer!
fake 5 star
They will ask you to rate 5 star to get a free additional driver when booking. So they have a lot 5 stars from a customer dont even started the service. Dont trust the 5 stars. And I have really bad experience, dirty car and cancel my pre paided booking. Never return the bus ticket mentioned before

Excellent personable service.
I rented 2 cars with Green Motion during my recent stay in Liverpool. On both occasions the team were very professional, helpful and personable.
Both cars were immaculately presented and the collection and drop off process was extremely smooth. I would definitely use the company again.
Excellent service.
Excellent service.
Second time with Greenmotion
No problems with them , I book with them direct as 3rd party bookings mean more restrictive T&Cs although possibly cheaper. The difference with Greenmotion is that their staff are pleasant and helpful and do not appear to be offering a hard sell or ripping you off. At Gatwick they are based offsite and you still experience the 5 to 15 minute wait you get with other Car hire companies but their cars are pretty new and in good condition with low mileage. They are not cheap but not expensive either. You need to allow 30 - 45 mins when picking up / returning the car and getting the shuttle bus to the airport. There is a cheap fuel station within 1/4 mile of their offices which they point out to you when picking the car up.

Please avoid
£1200 deposit taken off my credit card without consent. Apparently as I was renting for over 15 days they actually take the money not pre authorise. Was never told of this. I was then told I’d get it back 40 days after I returned the car.
The car ordered was not available (APPARENTLY IT CRASHED 20 minutes ago) and the replacement was not prepared, filthy inside and out and after two to three hours of messing about waiting, standing with tired children, they wanted me to sign saying the car had no damage when it was covered in dents and scuffs. The customer advisor was cracking inappropriate jokes the whole time. I heard him tell the maintenance technician to just reset a tyre pressure warning not to bother looking at tyres on a customers vehicle. At this point I left and sought a refund which took a week. Very unprofessional and amateur.

Dangerous, untaxed car...
Picked up a 7 seater from the Kings Dock branch in Liverpool to take my family on holiday from Liverpool to North Wales. Passenger rear tyre blew on the North Wales Expressway. Called the AA breakdown cover that came with the hire. The AA informed me that they couldn't come out to change the tyre as the car WAS NOT TAXED. Stuck on a motorway that had no hard shoulder with my elderly parents and 2 and 1 year old daughters. Called the Liverpool office who told me I should sort it out myself and bill them. Very, very luckily a patrol car pulled up behind us and was able to escort us to the nearest layby. They also gave me the number of a local breakdown service. Mechanic arrived and let us know that the locking nut key in the glove compartment was the wrong one for the tyre. The mechanic did have a key that fitted but when he tried to take the wheel nut off it just fell apart. He said it looked like something you get really cheap at a market. What was left of the the tyre was clearly Extremely worn when he took it off. We didn't hit anything on the motorway. We were driving with 4 adults and two babies in a 7 seater. We weren't overloaded by any stretch. We were driving with a dangerous tyre. The spare didn't look much better and we had to drive the rest of the journey without a wheel nut attached. I spoke again to the Kings Dock office when we reached our destination and they agreed that they would pay the £96 call out fee and I told them I wanted a full refund for the danger they had put my family in. When I gave the car back I showed the Green Motion colleague the state that both the original and spare tyre's were in. The colleague agreed on a full refund and the cost of the breakdown callout and I gave them my bank details for the transfer. However, that was more than a week ago and now they are just ignoring me. Never written a complaint in my life but I am absolutely furious at the danger this shoddy company put my family in and then their total evasiveness when they had an opportunity to put things right. I am going to be telling everyone who cares to listen, and everyone I know on social media, to never use this dangerous company because they clearly don't care about the safety or wellbeing of their customers.
